In addition to product design and production efforts, the Creative Media + Education Group supported all Waterford Institute projects and programs, developed corporate branding and marketing initiatives, created conference experiences, and helped develop department and corporate processes and training.

Corporate Branding: Waterford Institute’s logo design was inspired by the company’s founder, Dr. Dusty Heuston, who believes that the rate of learning is (almost) limitless when coupled with technology. We incorporated this message into website updates and other public-facing media, including his book, The Third Source. This opportunity allowed me to learn digital publishing to create Kindle, Nook, and iBook formats.
Processes and Procedures: The Creative Media + Education Group consisted of several departments, including Instructional Design, Art, Audio, Video, and User Experience. A Processes and Procedures Guide was developed to ensure consistency and efficiency in the production process and was the basis for new hire training.
Conferences and Production Tours: We developed and hosted the annual Best Practices Conference with our then partner, Pearson, to showcase exceptional implementations of our flagship products. The Creative Media + Education Group produced all the supporting materials/media and developed the overall conference experience.
Similarly, the Creative Media + Education Group developed the conference-goer’s experience for the inaugural and subsequent Early Education and Technology for Children (EETC) Conference. The conference’s objective is to share technological developments in education for children from preschool through elementary school. Speakers and attendees include researchers, policy makers, educators, and practitioners. We created all the supporting media for this annual 3-day event, which we also staffed.
Open House tours of the production studio accompanied every conference and were also regularly scheduled (monthly+) for potential customers and policy makers. The tour was meant to present a typical day at the Waterford Institute studio.
UPSTART: This Utah state-funded program was developed for preschoolers utilizing both our Waterford Early Learning and WACS products. The supporting media and materials for UPSTART — developed in both English and Spanish — were created to assist and train parents/caregivers in using the program with their children.
Update (April 2019): UPSTART was named a 2019 Audacious Project Big Idea. Housed at TED, the Audacious Project’s mission is to foster “collaborative philanthropy for bold ideas” and funds projects with the potential to create global change.
